Introduction to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional freedom technique (EFT) was created by Gary Craig in the 1990s and it is still undergoing development. EFT has its origins in Thought Form Therapy and acupressure.

As with acupuncture, Shiatsu, Reiki, Reflexology, and many other natural healing methods, EFT is based on the principle that energy flows around our bodies and that a disruption to this energy flow can cause us problems, either mentally, emotionally or physically.

Each of the aforementioned approaches uses a slightly different method to stimulate the free flow of energy: acupuncture uses needles, shiatsu uses pressure along the meridians (energy pathways), Reiki uses the energy itself to gently dissolve any blockages and reflexology uses pressure to the reflex points in the hands and the feet.

The underlying principle of EFT is that:

'all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the bodies energy system'
Gary Craig (2002)

What can EFT be used for?

EFT was originally developed for use with people experiencing fears and phobias but its high success rate, ease, speed and simplicity has lead to its practitioners applying EFT to almost any problem.

EFT has even been used to give relief to those suffering post traumatic stress disorder.

EFT can also be used for:

  • Eradication of fears and phobias
  • Reduction of cravings towards substances like tobacco, chocolate and coffee
  • Relief from strong emotions such as anger, grief and jealousy
  • To alleviate Insomnia and stress
  • Resolve Irritable bowel syndrome, constipation
  • Headaches, migraines and tension

And much, much more!

It is worth giving EFT a try!

EFT is simple, non invasive and fast. It can be learned quickly and applied to any goal you have in life. EFT can be used to applied to almost any situation. It doesn’t matter how intense the feeling or how long you have suffered with the problem. Generally one or two sessions are all that is required to make an enormous difference to the way that you feel about the issue. The technique is simple, so you can use it again and again to address anything else that you would like to change in your life.

EFT can also be used in connection with other natural healing methods such as hypnotherapy and Reiki, to reach goals even faster.

What does an EFT session involve?

EFT addresses these energy disruptions by tapping on specific points on the body (mainly the face and hands). The client is asked to concentrate on the issue causing distress while guided through the simple tapping sequence.

Each aspect of the issue is addressed in turn until the client feels emotionally neutral when thinking about the issue – they have gained Emotional Freedom!
